Mosaics are often made with found objects, pieces of memories, colorful shards and create scenic pictures or bold patterns. I find myself gravitating towards brilliant color combinations and designs inspired, once again, from nature. The majority of my mosaics are built for outdoor use. I usually hand-form concrete to use as a substrate, apply my tesserae with a cement based adhesives, and properly seal my grout to help weatherproof the garden mosaic. With any sculpture that may collect water, you may want to bring the garden artwork in for the freezing months to be safe.
Concrete Garden Leaves capture the beauty of a real leaf forever. Made from an actual concrete casting of a leaf, the shape can be manipulated into a bowl, stepping stone or wall hanging. I like to finish my gaarden leaves with a colorwash and seal it for the elements.
I have offered local demonstrations at Meiklem Kilnworks- Bozrah, CT, Hart's Greenhouse & Florist- Norwich, CT location, Indigo Lily Company- Colchester, CT, Morning Glories Floral Design & Pottery- Norwich, CT, and the Gilead School- Hebron,CT. Sign up in my guestbook to receive email notices of future demonstrations, workshops and shows.
